14 people were killed and 8 others were injured on Wednesday in a road Crash in the southern Cairo suburb of Helwan, Al-Ahram Arabic websiteb reported.

The accident occurred between 2 micro-buses and a vehicle on the free way in Torah region.

Cairo Governer Khaled Abdel-Aal rushed to the accident scene then visited the injured, who were all transferred to the nearby National Bank Hospital.

Deadly road accidents take place on a daily basis in Egypt due to poor road safety, badly maintained infrastructure, and loosely enforced traffic regulations.

However, Egypt has allocated millions of pounds on developing and expanding road networks in recent years.

In 2017, the government also passed a new, comprehensive traffic law to crackdown on violators and enhance safety and security.
The law will go into effect in 2020.
