Egypt is set to assess proposals presented during a summit hosted by Bahrain on the Palestinian economy.

In press statements to state-owned MENA agency, Egyptian foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said a delegation headed by the deputy finance minister will attend the “Peace to Prosperity” conference in Manama on 25-26 June.

The Egyptian delegation will assess ideas presented during the summit, and their compatibility with the Palestinian National Authority’s (PNA) vision of attaining the legitimate rights of Palestinians under a political framework and in accordance with Palestinian and Arab decisions and UN resolutions.

The participation by Egypt is believed to be vital as it is a key player in Middle East peace efforts.

“This comes under Egypt’s constant interest in dealing with economic challenges faced by the Palestinian people, and its long-standing commitment to work on achieving their legitimate aspirations…which include establishing an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital,” Hafez said, adding that such a resolution would end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict through a two state solution, in line with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
