Time Magazine has chosen Egypt's Red Sea Mountain Trail as one of the world's greatest places for tourists in 2019.

"Plunging gorges and craggy mountain-side are not all that separate mainland Egypt's first long-distance hiking trail from the beach resorts in the nearby vacation town of Hurghada," wrote Joseph Hincks, the Time magazine correspondent in the Middle East.

Hincks added that the trail's 105 miles take around ten days to walk, accompanied by Bedouin cameleers "who provide traditional food and insight into their culture."

The trail is a local community tourism initiative by the Maaza tribe.

Egypt’s first hiking trail is the 220-kilometre Sinai Trail, which was inaugurated in 2015.
