Egypt's National Press Authority is preparing a new digitalisation plan for state press institutions, the body said in a statement on Saturday.
"This huge project is being implemented for the first time, with the participation of the communications ministry and major companies," said the authority, adding that the move would employ radical solutions to the crises of the paper press and to increase the distribution and advertising rates.
A similar digitalisation strategy has been followed by major international newspapers that have been suffering from funding and distribution crises, the authority said, and aims at keeping pace with the fourth technological revolution, and with the rapid developments in the field of communications.
According to the statement, the details of the project and the stages of its implementation are expected to be announced in the next few weeks.
