Hundreds of university students in Cario have marched to the defence ministry in protest at the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.

Students from Cairo, Ain Shams and Helwan Universities took part in the march on Tuesday.

Security barriers set up by military police prevented the students reaching the defence ministry building in Abbassiya, Cairo.

In a further development, students at Cairo University's engineering faculty have begun a sit-in against military rule as part of an ongoing student strike movement that began on 11 February.
