Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has issued a decree appointing a new chief of the Council of State, judicial sources told Ahram Online.

Mohamed Hossam El-Din, who has chaired the council's State Commissioners Authority, will now be Chief Justice of the Council of State, a judicial body that rules in administrative disputes and reviews state contracts.

He is succeeding Judge Ahmed Abo Al-Azm, whose two-year term ends next week after reaching the age of retirement.

The Council of State comprises the High Administrative Court and offers the government and parliament legal advice.
