Egypt has reaffirmed its firm support to Cyprus' rights and sovereignty over its Eastern Mediterranean resources within the framework of international law, including the areas where the country has granted a license for offshore oil and gas exploration, the Egyptian foreign ministry said on Saturday

Cairo warns against continuing any unilateral measures that violate Nicosia's rights and threaten the security and stability of the Eastern Mediterranean region, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said in a statement Saturday.

The statement stressed the need to respect and implement the rules and provisions of international law.
