The Egyptian interior ministry said on Sunday that 1,818 inmates were pardoned while 574 others were released on parole.

This move comes pursuant to President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's decree number 511 of 2019 on pardoning some prisoners on the occasion of the 46th anniversary of the October War victory.

It is part of the ministry's efforts to implement a modern penal policy to provide prisoners with all aspects of care and help them engage in society, the ministry added.
