Egypt's prime minister Mostafa Madbouly (Al-Ahram)
Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly is scheduled to attend the plenary session of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Speaker of the House of Representatives Ali Abdel-Aal said on Monday.
Last Tuesday MPs used parliament's opening session to launch a scathing attack against the government, accusing it of not doing enough to protect the poor from the vagaries of economic reform.
In response to those critics, Abdel-Aal called on Prime Minister Madbouly and a number of cabinet ministers to attend Tuesday's parliamentary session to address MPs on the country's economic conditions and the strategy of fighting terrorism and hostile media campaigns trying to spread chaos in Egypt.
"My message to this government, including cabinet ministers and provincial governors, please do not export problems to the president of the republic and to parliament, be up to your responsibilities, and take all measures necessary to improve the living of ordinary citizens," said Abdel-Aal, adding that "the slogan of parliament's final session will be 'Serving Ordinary Citizens.'"
