Egypt's Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities has announced that it has finished the construction of a dam and an artificial lake to protect Wadi El-Bayda area in Dahab, South Sinai from floods.
The ministry said that it has completed the project at a cost of EGP 7.5 million, provided by the Informal Settlements Development Fund (ISDF).
According to the ministry, the dam and the lake should protect the areas of El-Asla, Youth Housing and Mubarak Housing in Wadi El-Beida from the dangers of flooding in the coming winter season.
According to Khaled Seddik, executive director of ISDF, Wadi El-Beida was considered an "unsafe area" due to floods.
In 2018, South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda and ISDF signed cooperation protocols to implement industrial works to protect Wadi El-Beida from floods.
