A high-level Hamas delegation headed by Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas political bureau, has reportedly arrived in Cairo on Monday at the beginning of a foreign tour.
An unnamed source in Hamas told AFP that the delegation will hold talks with Egyptian officials to discuss bilateral relations, the latest developments, and de-escalation with Israel.
News sites have reported that Haniyeh’s foreign tour will include a number of Arab countries and possibly Russia.
AFP also reported that a delegation from Islamic Jihad forces headed by its Secretary-General Ziad Al-Nakhala has travelled to Cairo on Monday to meet with officials from Egypt’s Intelligence Service.
An Egypt-mediated ceasefire between Israel and Islamic Jihad forces in the Gaza Strip was announced on 14 November after two days of fighting following Israel’s assassination of an Islamic Jihad leader in an air strike on Gaza. Hamas was not involved in the fight.
The recent Israeli attacks killed 34 Palestinians.
