Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi received on Saturday the Egyptian under-23 Olympic football team, who have won the African Youth Cup and qualified for the Tokyo Olympics 2020, and awarded them a medal for sporting excellence.

El-Sisi also honoured the players of the Egyptian national squash team who have won adult and junior world championships, the national karate team who won the World Youth Championship, and the Egyptian Paralympics mission that participated in the World Championships held recently in Australia.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Youth Ashraf Sobhy, as well as the presidents and officials from national sports federations.

President El-Sisi hailed the athletes' achievements and their contribution to improving Egypt's position in the regional and international sporting scene, stressing his appreciation for Egypt's athletes as role models for the youth.

Egypt's presidency spokesman Bassam Rady said that El-Sisi has instructed all concerned bodies to provide Egyptian athletes with all the support necessary to make further achievements.
