The German Konrad Adenauer Foundation welcomes Egypt's decision to lift a travel ban against two of its members on Wednesday who were involved in the infamous NGO case.

The two German employees have reportedly already left Cairo.

A travel ban was placed in late January on foreign NGO staff accused of operating without license and receiving illegal funds for illicit purposes in Egypt.

Forteen Egyptian and 29 foreign aid workers face trial for receiving illegal foreign funding and for working without a formal license. They have been accused of posing a threat to Egypt's national security.

The case caused much alarm, as it was seen as an intimidation tactic against rights groups who reported on state abuses during Egypt's transition period after the 2011 revolution. It also caused a show-down between the US diplomatic team and Egypt's ruling military.
