Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry flew to Algeria on Wednesday to take part in a ministerial meeting of Libya's neighbouring countries, which is scheduled for Thursday, the foreign ministry said.

The gathering is one in a series of ministerial meetings of Libya's neighbouring countries. The meetings are being held periodically, alternating between the capitals of the group.

The ministers are going to discuss the rapid developments of the Libyan conflict during their meeting in the Algerian capital, the foreign ministry said in a statement.

Libya's neighbours will look at future actions following the Berlin conference on Libya that was held earlier this week, as well as "ways to push the ongoing efforts to reach a comprehensive settlement that addresses all aspects of the Libyan crisis to lead to the restoration of security and stability" in the country.

The foreign ministers of Tunisia, Sudan, Chad, Mali and Niger are expected to take part in the meeting.

Earlier this week, world leaders, including President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, attended an international summit on Libya in Berlin, where key players active in Libya committed to abide by an existing UN arms embargo and stop sending weapons to the North African country.

Libya is divided between two rival factions, the Tripoli-based government in the west and the eastern forces aligned with military commander Khalifa Haftar.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara would send troops to Libya to support the country’s internationally-recognised government. He has already dispatched military advisers and trainers.
