Egypt's Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad has said that a new initiative aimed at spreading environmental awareness, dubbed 'Live Green,' sends a strong message that environment-related issues are of national priority for the political leadership.

In an interview with the state-run MENA news agency, Fouad said the initiative was launched after studies on an environmental communications strategy conducted over a year ago.

The strategy was launched at the beginning of the parliament’s session at the energy and environment committee's meeting to discuss obstacles to raising awareness about environmental issues and their importance.

The implementation of the initiative will take three years, she said, adding that one year is not enough to achieve environmental awareness among all citizens.
