Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry headed to Ethiopia on Wednesday to participate in preparatory meetings for the 33th African Union Heads of State Summit in Addis Ababa, the Egyptian foreign ministry said.
The African Union pre-summit meetings are being held from 6 to 7 February in the Ethiopian capital, followed by a summit meeting for African leaders from 9 to 10 February.
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, the African Union Heads of State Summit will witness Egypt handing over the chairmanship of the African Union to South Africa.
According to the statement, Minister Shoukry will participate in a number of sideline events, and discussions about issues including solutions for forced displacements and the progress in the African free market zone project.
The Egyptian foreign minister will also with a number of his African counterparts to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation on issues of joint interest.
The headquarters of the African Union is located in Addis Abba.
