Egypt's former president Hosni Mubarak, who ruled the country for 30 years, died in hospital on Tuesday at the age of 91.
A military funeral will be held for the former air force commander on Wednesday afternoon at a mosque in New Cairo, a source told Ahram Online.
Mubarak's son Alaa said on Twitter that his father had passed away on Tuesday morning. Mubarak was receiving treatment at an intensive care unit after undergoing surgery two weeks ago.
The former president was ousted following massive protests during the popular uprising that started in January 2011. The autocrat ruled Egypt from 1981 until 11 February 2011.
Mubarak was arrested two months following his overthrow and stood trial in a number of criminal cases on various charges. He was convicted of corruption in 2015, alongside his sons Alaa and Gamal, for using public funds to renovate family properties. Mubarak had already served his sentence in detention while awaiting trial in other cases.
He was sentenced to life in prison for conspiring to kill protesters during the popular uprising, but walked free in 2017 after being acquitted of the charges.
The Egyptian presidency mourned Mubarak's death, describing him in a statement as one of "the leaders and heroes of the [1973] war" and the military hailed him as "one of its sons."
The United Arab Emirates announced flags would fly at half mast in mourning for the long-serving leader, and Foreign Minister Anwar Gargash said the Arab world had lost a "statesman who took major national and historic positions."
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas hailed Mubarak for his support for the Palestinian cause, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called him a "personal friend" who "led his nation to peace and security, to peace with Israel."
Saudi Arabia's King Salman and Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa also offered their condolences.
