Egypt’s supreme state security prosecution released journalists Moataz Wadnan and Mostafa El-Aasar on bail on Thursday, both of whom were detained on charges in a case known as “the media hub of the Muslim Brotherhood.”

The two men, detained since 2019, are accused of publishing false news that could affect national security and of joining a group established contrary to the law and constitution.

Wadnan, a HuffPost Arabia journalist, was arrested after interviewing Hisham Geneina, the former top auditor, in February 2018.

Geneina claimed in the interview that former military chief of staff Sami Anan "possesses secret documents that could incriminate state officials."
