Police forces killed Sunday during a shootout in Al-Badari city in Assuit governorate a gang leader who had been sentenced to death, Egypt’s interior ministry said in a statement.
Police forces also wounded one of his aides and arrested the rest of the gang members.
Police found six automatic rifles, a large amount of ammunition, and parts of firearms in their possession.
The gang was specialised in trafficking firearms and ammunition.
The dead gang leader had been sentenced to death in absentia in a murder case.
