A number of inspection committees from the health ministry, the chamber of hotels, governorate authorities and the antiquities and tourism ministry began inspecting hotels on Thursday in a number of touristic cities in Egypt before their planned reopening to domestic tourists on Friday.

Starting from Friday, hotels in Egypt will open their doors for guests and day users, although they must operate at a 25 percent capacity cap until the end of May.

Hotels are expected to accommodate guests at a 50 percent capacity starting from June.

The committees checked hotels in the governorates of Red Sea, South Sinai, Luxor and Aswan.

According to a statement from the antiquities and tourism ministry, the committees are inspecting how committed the hotels are to health safety standards, as issued by the government in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Among the guidelines imposed by the government are the presence of a clinic with resident doctor and the availability of personal protective kits and disinfection materials.

Guests must be registered online or using single-use pens and should get their temperatures measured each time they enter resorts. Workers will undergo rapid coronavirus tests when entering resorts.

Hotel operators must form joint teams with the health ministry's infection control department to guarantee all requirements are met.

Hotels will still not be allowed to hold any parties or weddings, or any kind of overnight activities, according to the tourism ministry.
