Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry is heading to Amman Sunday to discuss with his Jordanian counterpart Aymen El-Safdi latest developments in the regional arena, particularly the Palestinian cause.

Jordan's King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein is to receive the Egyptian minister, said Ahmed Hafez, spokesman of the foreign ministry.

Shoukry will head afterward to the Palestinian capital of Ramallah where Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will receive him, Hafez added.

Shoukry's visit to Ramallah comes as an expression of Egypt's supportive stance to reclaim the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, said Hafez, amid news circulating on the Israeli intentions to annex parts of the occupied Palestinian territories.

The visit also comes in light of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s keenness and directives to back the Palestinians in fulfilling their legitimate aspirations to establish an independent state.

Israel is considering annexing parts of the occupied West Bank under the umbrella of a US-plan for Israeli-Palestinian peace, a move rejected by the Palestinian Authority, which governs the West Bank.
