Egypt on Thursday reported 145 new coronavirus cases and 22 deaths, the health ministry said in a statement, bringing the total number of infections to 96,108 including 5,107 fatalities.

The statement added that 989 of the people infected had recovered and been released from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 56,890.

Egypt's daily tally of new coronavirus infections and daily death toll have both continued to decline in recent weeks despite the recent lifting of lockdown measures in the country.

The new figures are significantly lower than an average of 1,400 daily cases recorded through June and until early July.
