Egypt condemned “in the strongest terms” an attack on Saudi Arabia’s southern Jizan region by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels, a statement by the foreign ministry read on Saturday.
The foreign ministry stressed Egypt’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for any measures taken by the Kingdom to safeguard its security, stability, and the safety of its citizens.
The statement came hours after Saudi state news agency SPA reported that five civilians were injured after a military projectile launched by the Houthis hit a village in the Kingdom’s southern area.
A civil defense spokesman told SPA that the five civilians suffered minor injuries, and that three cars were destroyed in the attack.
Egypt has repeatedly expressed its full support for the Saudi Arabian-led coalition against the Houthi rebels in Yemen, saying the Iran-backed movement’s practices further inflame the situation in Yemen.
