Egypt's new ambassador to Uganda, Ashraf Swelam, presented a copy of his credentials to Ugandan Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa on Friday, to start his term officially.
The meeting was attended by the permanent secretary of the ministry and the director of the protocol department.
Kutesa praised the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, referring in particular to President Yoweri Museveni's visit to Egypt in May 2018 and the joint committee chaired by the two countries' foreign ministers during his visit.
Kutesa also indicated the importance of increasing Egyptian investments in Uganda, and of strengthening trade ties between the two countries.
He also praised the ongoing cooperation with Egypt on regional issues of mutual interest, as well as on combating terrorism and extremism.
The Egyptian ambassador stressed the strategic ties that bring together Egypt and Uganda and the friendly relationship between their peoples and leaders.
He reiterated his commitment to further strengthen bilateral relations on all levels, aiming at achieving the shared interests of the peoples of the two Nile Basin countries.
