Polling stations across 13 Egyptian governorates closed at 9pm local time, marking the end of the second and last day of the 2nd stage of the Egyptian House of Representatives’ elections at home, the National Elections Authority (NEA) announced on Sunday.

The 9,468 secondary polling stations involved in the second stage of the House election have announced the end of the vote, and the heads of polling stations have started sorting ballots.

The results of the second stage are set to be announced on 15 November, and probable run-offs will be held on 7-8 December.

Several officials, including Tourism and Antiquities Minister Khaled Al-Anany, Health Minister Hala Zayed and Minister of Manpower Mohamed Saafan have cast their ballots.

All polling stations opened their doors at 9am to receive voters who adhered to the coronavirus preventive measures, including wearing facemasks.

The governorates covered in the second stage included Cairo, Qalioubiya, Daqahliya, Menoufiya, Gharbiya, Kafr El-Sheikh, Sharqiya, Damietta, Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, North Sinai and South Sinai.

Voting took place under full judicial supervision, as stipulated by the election laws and the decisions of the NEA, amid strict precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

NEA head Lashin Ibrahim said the authority has not received any complaints on the integrity of the vote, adding that the electoral process proceeded regularly in most of the committees.
