Egypt's Sisi mourns death of Mali's former president

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has sent a cable of condolences mourning the death of Mali's former President Amadou Toumani Touré, a statement by Egypt's presidential spokesman said late Saturday.

El-Sisi said Touré was a key African leader who always supported initiatives aiming at maintaining stability in Africa, in addition to having a prominent role in promoting several developmental ventures and initiatives in his country.

"Egypt will never forget the efforts exerted by Touré to reinforce bilateral relations between Egypt and Mali," the statement added.

Touré, who died Tuesday aged 72, served as interim president of Mali from 1991 to 1992 and as Mali’s elected president from 2002 to 2012
