Egypt's Grand Mufti Shawki Allam has condemned “a terror attack” that was committed on a fuel tank at a petroleum products distribution terminal in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Monday.

In a statement on Tuesday, Allam said "all terrorist groups and organisations will disappear and all their criminal operations will go to the dustbin of history."

Allam, who is the President of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities worldwide, called for continuing "complete Arab coordination and cooperation in the face of terrorist assaults by terrorist groups that seek to wreak violence and havoc in the Arab region."

On Monday, a fire broke out at a Jeddah fuel tank in a distribution terminal of petroleum products caused by a terrorist attack, according to the state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

An unnamed official at Saudi Arabia’s energy ministry said - in statements reported by the SPA - that no injuries have been reported on the incident and accused Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels of committing the assault.

Egypt's foreign ministry has condemned the incident, saying "the act targets the security of the Gulf country and the stability of energy supplies."

Egypt has repeatedly expressed its full support for the Saudi Arabian-led coalition against the Houthi rebels in Yemen, saying that the Iran-backed movement’s practices further inflame the situation in Yemen.
