Popular Egyptian actress Yousra has tested positive for coronavirus,

She is currently undergoing medical treatment.

"I extend my sincerest thanks and gratitude to all my friends inside and outside Egypt and to the generous audience for asking and [showing] great concern after my infection with the coronavirus was confirmed," she posted on her Facebook account.

"I also extend a very special thanks to the Ministry of Health and to all the doctors and nursing staff who are supervising my case, no words can describe their great effort to combat this disease," she added.

Yousra, 65, appeared in hundreds of films, plays and TV shows throughout a fruitful multi-decade career dating back to 1980 when she made her debut.

Egypt is witnessing a second wave of the contagion, with an increased daily infections and death toll.

The country recorded on Thursday 1,021 new coronavirus infections, the highest daily toll in almost five months, pushing the total tally of cases, recorded since the pandemic began domestically in mid-February, to 128,993.
