Egypt’s Dar El-Ifta has permitted the use of the COVID-19 vaccine which contains pork gelatin, a statement by the body responsible for issuing religious edicts in the country read on Saturday.

Dar El-Ifta said administrating the vaccine is permissible if the gelatin used is changed into another non-pork material during the manufacturing process.

The same goes for vaccines administered to cure other diseases.

Dar El-Ifta's statement comes to quell the controversy among Muslims concerning pork gelatin, which is a common vaccine ingredient, due to the fact that the consumption of pork is forbidden in Islam.
