Egypt’s iconic River Nile Fountain is lit and operational again after a four-decade hiatus.
After its renovation, the 65-year-old fountain, which now pushes water 125 metres high, dances around while illuminated with dazzling lights at night.
“Inactive for 40 years, the fountain has now become a lighthouse," said Hany Younis, the cabinet's spokesperson.
The fountain was constructed in 1956 during the era of late president Gamal Abdel-Nasser in the middle of the Nile, across from the island of Zamalek.
The Arab Contractors Company partnered with Cairo governorate and three ministries to renovate the fountain.
