Magnitude 4.6 earthquake strikes southwest of Egypt's Western Desert

Egyptian National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics has reported no casualties or material damage so far

 A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck southwest of the Western Desert, some 300 kilometres northwest of the town of Abu Simbel in Aswan governorate..

The quake, which took place earlier on Friday, had a depth of 12 kilometres, the head of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics Gad el Qady said.

The institute has reported no casualties or material damage so far, he added.
