The vote count has ended in 90 per cent of the polling stations across Egypt, according to Mohamed Saleh of the Judges Club.
Saleh reported that the votes from only a few polling stations remain, and the vote count is expected to be completed within a few hours.
He also revealed that the results show that the Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi is in the lead and is followed by Mubarak-era minister Ahmed Shafiq.
The first post-Mubarak presidential elections took place on 23 and 24 May. The vote counting began on Thursday night and preliminary results will be announced on Sunday. The final results are expected on Tuesday after complaints about violations have been considered.
If no candidate wins a majority of the vote, there will be a runoff on 16 and 17 June, and the president will be named on 21 June.
