Demonstration at 5pm Thursday will call for the immediate release of reporter arrested in Khartoum whilst covering anti-austerity protests

Activists are calling for a protest at the Sudanese Embassy in downtown Cairo to demand the release of Egyptian journalist Salma El-Wardany who was arrested in Khartoum earlier on Thursday while covering anti-austerity protests.

The demonstration is being planned for 5pm in front of the Sudanese embassy in Cairo's Garden City.
 
El-Wardany, 25, an Ahram Online business reporter, is currently working in Khartoum for the Bloomberg news agency.
