Hazem Salah Abu-Ismail, the Salafist former presidential candidate, has said that even if President-elect Mohamed Morsi accepts the military council's constitutional addendum, the people will have the final say.

"Even if the president had to surrender to this to take power ... the people still have the power to object to it," Abu-Ismail said on his official Facebook page.

The ruling military council recently issued changes to Egypt's March 2011 interim constitution that sorely limit the incoming president's powers.

Mohamed Morsi has agreed to take the oath of presidential office at the High Constitutional Court, in a move some have described as a tacit acceptance of the addendum which dictates the new president swears in before the High Court..

Morsi had said last week he would take the oath in parliament, but is facing difficulties in doing so immediately because the lower house had been dissolved by the ruling military council due to the unconstitutionality of the parliamentary election law.

Hazem Salah Abu-Ismail was disqualified from the presidential race last April because of his mother's US citizenship.
