The president of the republic alone should wield the authority to declare war under the terms of Egypt's new constitution, Wahid Abdel-Meguid, spokesman for the Constituent Assembly tasked with drafting a new national charter, stated on Thursday.
He went on to point out that such was the case with "most of the national constitutions throughout the world."
Abdel-Meguid stressed, however, that consultations with Egypt's Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) regarding issues related to the declaration of war were "natural."
