President Mohamed Morsi condemned Tuesday's attacks on US diplomatic missions in Cairo and Benghazi during a press conference in Brussels on Thursday.

He went on to condemn the anti-Islam film that sparked the attacks, describing any insult against the Prophet Mohamed as a "red line."

"We Egyptians reject any kind of assault or insult against our prophet. I condemn and oppose all who... insult our prophet," Morsi said.

He offered his condolences on the death of Christopher Stevens, the US Ambassador to Libya, and three other embassy staff, who were killed late Tuesday during an attack on the US consulate in Benghazi.

Morsi went on to say that Islam strongly condemns the killing of innocent people. “Whoever kills a soul, it is as if he had slain mankind entirely," he said, quoting the Quran.

He asserted that people had the right to protest peacefully and that Egypt was strong enough to protect foreign missions and envoys on its soil, as well as public and private property.

He warned against further attacks on foreign missions that would violate Egyptian and international law.

Morsi said that he had spoken with US President Barack Obama and told him that it was necessary to put in place "legal measures which will discourage those seeking to damage relations... between the Egyptian and American people."

In Cairo, police used tear gas on Thursday as they clashed with a stone- and bottle-throwing crowd protesting near the US embassy in Cairo over a film mocking Islam, witnesses and the interior ministry said.

Protests against the film were also held on Wednesday outside US missions in Morocco, Sudan, Yemen and Tunisia. In Tunis, police fired tear gas to disperse a crowd of several hundred.

The low-budget movie, Innocence of Muslims in which actors have strong American accents, portrays Muslims as immoral and gratuitously violent.

It pokes fun at the Prophet Mohammed and touches on themes of paedophilia and homosexuality, while showing him sleeping with women, talking about killing children and referring to a donkey as "the first Muslim animal."

Mystery has deepened over the film, with conflicting accounts from backers and promoters but no one owning up to having actually directed it.

President Morsi is currently on official visits to Belgium and Italy in order to bolster Egypt-EU relations.

Bless the LORD , Oh my soul
God Of All creation, what ever you call him . He calls us Precious Children ... God loves You,them, they,us,we,me. there is only two kinds of people in his eye's them that love him and all others and them that do not.Learn of me he says' My ways are meek and my burden is lite. Lean not towards your own understanding for his ways are not our ways.Seek his face and draw close to him and he will draw close to you.The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesses the home of the just. So , why judge each other ,seeing it is God who already does. The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools. Peace . Share the Love*SHINE* God is Love.

The evil people never beat us
Egypt is a united nation and we know how we can punish anyone too. No one can challenge us. Egyptian's and Muslim the result for what we done will cost us money and time. Muslim don't kill and fight Muslim. Muslim to Muslim are brother and that's in the Koran. We damaged our own Country and kill and hurt innocent Souls. We should understand our action and take the peaceful opposition to show all the world , we are true Egyptian. We love our Country and we understand who wants destroy our strength and our economy. The message is clear Muslim and Christian are united in Egypt forever. The key questions Who invented the Computer, internet, face book and Tweet. We need to read before we act. We are intelligent people. Egyptian's know that there are invisible hands trying to weaken our society and our bright future. If we want to take action and revenge we should stop buying and using US products instead fight each other, destroying Egypt and economy. This will hurt America more.

Ignorance of America
The penalty for insulting Islam is death and the American media is hand delivering those involved with the anti-Muslim film on a silver platter by reporting their personal info and location. Your reporting has caused more danger to the person/people involved than you realize. Although I do not agree with the movie and it think it was made in poor taste and judgement, they expressed their constitutional right to free speech.  The film makers actions are not the actions of the entire US or of the  entire Coptic Orthodox Christian community worldwide, but that of particular individual(s). I echo the words of our Coptic Orthodox Bishop of Los Angeles that our church does not support hateful films and we disagree with any works that attack other religion or portrays it in a hateful manner.  Ironically, a religion of peace responds immediately with the burning of a US flag, violence, and death of innocent victims.  The production and distribution of this film gave Muslims in Egypt and Lib

We Failed
It shows how wimple-minded we are. Academic institutions, philosiphers, professors worldwide praise the Prophet (SAWS) and his message to humanity of peace , mercy and comapssion. In us Supreme Court's hall it is written that the Prophet is one of the greatist legislator in human history. Stop acting silly

Double Edged Sword of Freedom of Speech
If anyone does a search on the internet they will find offensive cartoons, commentaries photos, clips and more. There is pornography and gambling. The internet also has good things like translated Quran in all languages tafsir. The ability to complain about injustice. We can post videos and commentaries about bad government. If we as Muslims avoid and ignore the bad and promote the good we have the most powerful tool for Daawa. Instead by jumping up and down in the street and killing people. I guarantee that this 13 minute clip is one of the most viewed. Islam is protected by Allah, Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) endured much worse attacks on him in Mecca and by being strong and using hickma he was able to bring his detractors to Islam.

Ban the film & Arrest the film-maker
No body is talking about banning the film, arresting the producer. All talks about the violance not the root-cause for the violance.

To Nazeer
Nazeer, you are very right. This is not protected under first amendment with freedom of expression. you can not insult other person or religion under freedom of expression. This is the statement from university of Pennsylvania professor of religiuos study a non Muslims professor states that the perpetrator should be arrested. My tweets reflected my exasperation that as a religion professor, it is difficult to teach the facts when movies such as Bacile's Innocence of Muslims are taken as both truth and propaganda, and used against innocent Americans. So why did I tweet that Bacile should be in jail? The "free speech" in Bacile's film is not about expressing a personal opinion about Islam. It denigrates the religion by depicting the faith's founder in several ludicrous and historically inaccurate scenes to incite and inflame viewers. Even the film's actors say they were duped

Its an Internet Film
It is almost impossible to ban anything from the Internet. and there are no laws in the US that can be used to prosicute . The first amendment guarantees free speech. One might be able to go to civil court and claim slander.

Attack on US Embassies
Attacks on any embassy are definitely against international law. But so was the Iraqi war, and is the Afghan war, drone attacks in Yemen and Pakistan, the funding of Al-Qaeda terrorists in Syria, Guatanamo Bay, and the persistence of Israel over 1967 borders which is tolerated by the US, amongst many other transgressions.

Fringes
A radical fringe in one country provokes a radical fringe in another country, and ordinary people will have to suffer for it? I am Catholic and I think the general left-liberal PC trend of attacking anything Christian is a bigger threat to the West than radical Islam. Burning the Bible, Qu'ran, or any holy book is wrong, attacking a holy place is wrong, and insulting any religion is wrong, and I do not do that even if we have reservations about any given religion. God bless.

If I may add to David's comment
That first I agree 100% with you, and I may add that it is not only unacceptable, but it is definitely against God' Law and His last Messenger - PUBH- to attack diplomatic missions, destroying properties and to shoot the messengers, I do however have my reservation about who did it in the case of Lybia's murders, the US government has such and long and famous history of false flags operations by killing hundreds and sometimes thousands of their own people and conveniently blaming others for it so that their gullible citizens support their crimes around the world for the last 150 years. The list of those famous false flag operations is quite too long to post here.
