The family of a slain street vendor, who had carried his body around busy Giza Square to protest his killing by a police officer, has agreed to bury the body after police promised to bring his killer to trial

The family of a slain street vendor, who had protested his killing in a police raid by carrying his body around Giza Square, have agreed to bury the body after security officials promised the police officer who killed him will be brought to trial.

Thousands of protesters blocked Giza Square on Tuesday afternoon, in protest at the death of the street vendor who was killed on Monday during a raid by police aimed at clearing the square of vendors.

Family of the slain vendor Mostafa Eid brought his body from the morgue and marched around the square to protest his killing, joined by hundreds of other street vendors and their relatives chanting anti-police slogans.

All entrances to the square have been blocked as the number of protesters increases through the evening.
