The head of Egypt's Supreme Councl of Armed Forces issued a decree on Tuesday ordering a constitutional amendment committee, headed by retired judge Tareq Al-Bishry, to finish its work within 10 days, MENA agency reported.
The Supreme Council of Armed Forces said it hopes to hand over power to civilian rulers, including an elected president, within six months.
"The Higher Military Council expressed its hope to hand over power within six months to a civilian authority and a president elected in a peaceful and free manner that expresses the views of the people," a statement on MENA said.
"The council affirmed that it does not seek power, that the current situation was imposed on the armed forces and that they have the confidence of the people," it said.
