Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Kandil will visit the Gaza Strip on Friday as Israel presses a major air campaign against the territory, the ruling Hamas government said on Thursday.
"The Egyptian leadership informed us that Prime Minister Hisham Kandil will visit Gaza tomorrow, accompanied by a number of ministers. We welcome this visit and appreciate this courageous stand," Hamas spokesman Taher al-Nunu told AFP.
Earlier, hundreds of Egyptian demonstrators had staged a protest in front of the Arab League's Cairo headquarters and demanded that Arab governments move quickly to stop ongoing Israeli aggression.
15 Gazans were killed in 20 hours of Israeli air strikes and another 15 were injured, according to medics.
On the other hand, Gaza rockets killed 3 Israelis and injured another 5 in the southern town of Kiryat Malachi, police said.
