Cairo Criminal Court has acquitted two policemen who were accused of killing five protesters and injuring seven others during the first 18 days of Egypt’s January 25 revolution.

The court ruling came after a prison chief and two police captains testified that the accused were not present in Al-Darb Al-Ahmar police station, where the deaths occurred, on the day in question.

To date, no policemen tried for killing protesters during the first 18 days of the January revolution have received prison terms.

More than 840 protesters were killed during the 18-day uprising which led to the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak, with more than 6,000 others injured.
