An EgyptAir pilot made an emergency landing at Hurghada airport on Monday after a snake bit a Jordanian passenger who had concealed it in his luggage.

Crew were shocked by the passenger's screams, being unaware of the snake's presence on the plane.

The accident was reported to the pilot, who requested emergency permission to land in Hurghada. The passenger was immediately taken off the plane for medical treatment, and local authorities confiscated the snake.

Following that, the flight continued on to Kuwait.

Airport Security
Tells us how efficient airport security in Egypt works...But honestly, I am not surprised, having flown in and out of Egypt tons of times in the last four years.

Would like more info as well
The snake in the picture is a harmless Gopher Snake, so I hope they didn't land the plane for a bite from that snake. I am assuming however that since the passenger screamed out and it was HIS snake that it was in fact a venomous snake that bit him, although it isn't clear from this story, if that is the case.

Snake on a plane
Security at Cairo Airport is clearly deficient. How can any passenger be confident that their safety will not be compromised after such a serious breach of required security procedures. Airport Management are ultimately responsible and must be held accountable and disciplined accordingly.

a bit more information would be welcome
How did the passenger managed to get the snake on board, what type of snake (certainly not the one shown in the pic, I guess) it was and what was the final destination of the flight? And finally, where did the poor snake end up (?), hopefully in a zoo.
