The Court of Cassation accepted early Thursday the appeal presented by policemen accused and convicted of murdering Khaled Said and ordered their trial in front of a new court.
Alexandria Criminal Court sentenced 26 October policemen Mahmoud Salah Mahmoud and Awad Ismail Soliman to seven years in jail for illegal imprisonment and use of torture and violence. The court's ruling was already considered shocking to the family and supporters of the late 28-year-old Alexandrian.
The former public prosecutor accused the policemen of arresting Said without legal right and torturing him until death.
The brutal murder of Khaled Said in summer 2010 in Alexandria is considered one of the sparks of January 25 Revolution in Egypt.
