Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi on Wednesday reiterated that his 2010 comments about Jews had been "taken out of context," stressing that, "as a Muslim, I respect all the divine religions [Judaism, Christianity and Islam]."

"As a Muslim, I respect Jews and Judaism," he said at a joint press conference in Berlin with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Last month, three-year-old video footage emerged in which Morsi – in his capacity at the time as a leading Muslim Brotherhood member – endorses hatred of Jews and describes Zionists as "pigs" and "bloodsuckers."

Shortly afterward, the Western-led 'international community' voiced its displeasure with Morsi's statements, which were condemned by both Washington and Berlin.

Morsi's office quickly issued a statement rejecting "discrimination and incitement to violence based on religion."

The Obama administration praised Morsi's clarification, but called on the Egyptian president and other Egyptian leaders to "demonstrate their commitment to religious tolerance and Egypt's peace treaty with Israel."

When asked about the anti-Jew comments at the Berlin press conference, Morsi stated: "I'm obliged [by Islamic doctrine] to respect Judaism, but I was speaking about the wrong practices committed by some. My words were edited and taken out of context."

Standing next to Morsi at the conference, Merkel stressed the importance of "religious freedom," saying the Egyptian government must "respect human rights."

Egypt Is The Leader Of The Arab World
The guilt of the West especially Germany about their treatment of the Jews under the Nazi rule is over-bearing so much so that they jump up when someone utter any words that hurts the feelings of Israel and Jews. Do they care for Palestinians who have lost their land to the Jews. Thanks to the Europeans and US for their grand strategy and support.President Morsi cares for the Palestinians and hopefully as a leader of the Arab world, he will do everything possible to alleviate their suffering. A strong and prosperous Egypt under President Morsi will lead the Arab world to greater heights.

tolerance...and he respects only divine religions from koran?
he speaks tolerance. and he says he respects only the so called divine 3 religions. there are religions in this world 2000 years before these appeared. so his tolerance also is limited to speech, not to any real appreciation or understanding of the world and history or religions. bahai's are prevented from attending school. hindus cant bury their dead in egypt. what kind of a jungle is this?

Shame on you Morsy
I could not believe it when Morsy was talking about the Egyptian people and referred to them as "Muslims" instead of "Citizens".

Changing of concepts
I do differentiate between Judaism and Zionism, I must respect all divine religions as my religion taught me, there is no argument about that. What I want to talk about is the MB's concepts. In the tape, Morsi said that he doesn't see any difference between Judaism and Zionism. He said they are the same, they are both our enemies. We must even teach our kids to hate them. And now as you can see he denies that. Sadly, this's a typical of their way.

Non-Islamic Behavior
Mr, Morsi statement shows his ignorance of Islam and modern politics. FYI, Jewish tribe Yathreb saved early muslims, etc. We proud of our Arab Jews and despiseEuro-Zionists.

Can someone then tell me what the proper context is when he said very clearly that we must nurture our children into hate?

Zionism VS Judism
Zionism is a political movement that violated human rights of Palestinians and deserves criticism. We respect jews since inception and have long, long history of honourable relationship. Down with Zionism!
