Students of the Egyptian Popular Current, together with several student groups, have called for protests against recent arrests of student activists.
Protesters will gather at Cairo and Helwan universities on Tuesday and march to the office of the prosecutor-general.
Mahmoud Safwat and Abdel-Rahman Arabi were among a number of students arrested at their homes. Protest organisers claim the accusations against them are fabricated.
Safwat, Egyptian Popular Current general coordinator at Helwan University, is accused of thuggery and being a member of the Black Bloc.
Last week, Prosecutor-General Talaat Abdullah ordered the arrest of 22 alleged members of the anarchist-inspired group.
