Hundreds of fishermen protest over Fisheries Authority's refusal to renew fishing licenses

Hundreds of fishermen from the village of Burulus in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, located on the northern coast of Egypt, blocked on Monday afternoon the International Mediteranean Highway with burning tyres, protesting that their fishing licenses had not been renewed.

The fishermen objected to a decision by the Fisheries and Port Authority to refuse to renew their licenses, arguing several fake ones had been detected.

Traffic has come to a halt due to the demonstration, reported Al-Ahram Arabic website.

Security forces are currently negotiating with the protesting fishermen.
