Muslim Brotherhood spokesman Ahmed Aref commented on Tuesday that the ministerial reshuffle will be assessed and held accountable by the Egyptian people.

Earlier on Tuesday, a cabinet reshuffle was announced where a total of nine ministries changed hands, including the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, the Ministry of Petroleum, the Ministry of Antiquities, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Investment.

The reshuffle included three prominent Muslim Brotherhood figures.Yehia Hamed, the new investment minister, Amr Darrag, the international cooperation and planning ministry and Ahmed El-Gizawi, the new minister of Agriculture.

“The people haven’t delegated anyone to speak on behalf of them,” said Aref who further added that until a new people’s assembly is elected “everyone” has the right to advise the cabinet in all possible ways. However, he criticised those who chose to “oppose.”

Aref further called on the current cabinet on not to take “long-term strategic decisions” on its own.

The reshuffle was disappointing to several opposition figures who viewed it failing to bring in necessary political diversity, and failing to meet their main demand of replacing Prime Minister Hisham Qandil.
