Dozens of students from Cairo's Misr International University (MIU) blocked the Cairo-Ismailia road where the university is situated on Tuesday, in reaction to the death of a woman who was run over by a car outside the university compound.
The woman had been visiting the university’s free dental clinic. The accident happened in front of her six-year-old son.
In March, a male student had been killed after being hit by a car, while a female student sustained severe fractures in a similar incident.
Following those incidents, the university was hit by recurrent violence after security guards reportedly cracked down on a sit-in by students who were demanding better road safety measures, leaving several injured.
Photos by students injured at the clashes were circulated on social media site Twitter showing several injuries caused by stones and birdshot.
