Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi left Cairo Friday afternoon to attend the 21st African Union summit in Addis Ababa, scheduled from 19 to 27 May, which coincides with a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the continental organisation.
President Morsi will hold talks with a number of African leaders and presidents during the summit, according to presidential spokesman Ihab Fahmy.
Fahmy added the summit will discuss a number of issues, including peace and development in Africa as well as fighting HIV and malaria, and the union's efforts in preventing wars and conflicts in the continent.
President Morsi will also participate in the summit meeting, to be held Saturday 25 May, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the continental body.
The spokesperson also added that President Morsi will meet with members of the Egyptian community in Ethiopia to discuss their issues in-country.
