Court upholds decision to freeze Mubarak’s family assets

Ahmed Eleiba, Tuesday 8 Mar 2011

On Tuesday, lawyer Samir Sheshtawy, defending ousted president Hosni Mubarak, demanded that Cairo’s Court of Appeals postpone its decision on Mubarak’s assets freeze and his travel ban by 24 hours until all necessary legal papers are ready. Shehstawy’s demand was not granted by the court.

Sheshtway agreed to take on Mubarak’s case on Monday after many lawyers refused. He argues that defending Mubarak is a purely legal and human matter and that there can be no other benefit from it since Mubarak has been removed from his position as president.

Mubarak’s estimated fortune didn’t match his monthly presidential salary, which was estimated at LE12 thousand (roughly $2100USD) per month without benefits.
