Cairo governor Osama Kamal was given a one year prison sentence on Tuesday for failing to implement a judicial decision.
Abdeen Misdemeanour Court also ruled Kamal be dismissed from his post as governor, reported Al-Ahram’s Arabic language news website.
The lawsuit against the governor related to a decision not to pay compensation in the case of land illegally confiscated by the governorate.
According to the court ruling, the governor was notified more than once, but did not implement the prosecution's decision.
Kamal can appeal Tuesday’s ruling.
